Governor Biographies

Mohamed Isap (Chair)

Mohamed currently works as Group Strategy Director at Hobs PLC. With over 30 operations across the UK, Hobs are the county’s largest provider of 3D technology.  As part of the Group Board, Mohamed leads the development of business strategy and innovation across a global market, including new ventures, acquisitions and market development.

Mohamed established his own business – MPG – in 1997, and it quickly grew into the NW’s largest independent digital print company, featuring in the Financial Times’ list of 100 Fast-Track Companies. Since selling the business in 2013, Mohamed has also founded two Social Enterprises – Business Plus and Create Plus – harnessing the talents of the business community to serve charitable causes.

Mohamed has an MBA and is a trained Accountant and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management. He is also the Chair of Blackburn with Darwen’s Local Strategic Partnership, the town’s largest and most influential partnership body, which is made up of representatives from the public sector, local businesses and the faith, community and voluntary sector. Mohamed has previously been a non-executive director of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and, for six years, served on the Department for Trade and Industry’s Ethnic Minority Business Forum. He was instrumental in bringing a significant amount of national funding into the region to support business and entrepreneurship.  He has been on the Corporation Board at Blackburn College for 6 years and was the Chair of Governors at Wensley Fold Church of England School for 8 years, taking it from special measures to Ofsted Outstanding

Zahur Waghat (Lead Governor for Finance, HR, Business Operations and Estates)

Zahur is an Oncology account manager working for Novatis Pharmaceuticals. Zahur brings almost twenty years of commercial experience gained through working with two of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world (Sonofi Aventis and Novatis). He holds a BSc (Hons) Business and Management Studies and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies. He is due to complete a Masters in Business Administration in the near future. He brings with him a deep understanding of complex and multi-national organisations.

Habib Patel (Lead Governor for Learning Outcomes)

Habib is an experienced senior manager with a background in people and performance management. He has worked in both the private and public sectors, including a period as Chief Executive of the Asian Business Federation.  More recently, he has joined the public sector as a senior manager with Lancashire County Council where he has headed up the Council’s performance management function and managed a range of strategic partnerships and stakeholder relationships. He has previously been a non-executive director of Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Trust and holds various voluntary positions in the community.

Talha Ahmed

Talha has been working for HM Prison Services as a Chaplain since 2002, a role which involves providing support and pastoral care to all – irrespective of religion, race, culture or any other influence. In the past, he has held a teaching post in a local primary school, which ignited his passion for education. Talha is also a trustee of a charity which works to enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged children in India.

Hanif Ali (Lead Governor for Compliance and Policies including SEN)

For the past thirteen years, Hanif has been working within the substance misuse sector as a development co-ordinator. He is a qualified counsellor and has studied development and criminal psychology. As an executive member of the Blackburn with Darwen Drug Advisory Group, he has experience of working with complex individual cases and a good understanding of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Shaukat Desai

Shaukat has a 1st Class degree in Business Computing from the University of Sunderland and over fifteen years’ experience as a consultant with various companies including Deutsche Bank, Logica, and Capita. Shaukat is currently working at Oracle as a Principal Sales Consultant.

Mubaaruck Ibrahim

Mubaaruck has over twenty year’s secondary school experience in Academies, Voluntary Aided and Community Schools. He has worked in high performing and challenging schools, raising attainment in each of the schools he has worked in. Mubaaruck has spent the last 10 years as a Principal and Chief Executive; each of the three schools he has led have gone on to be graded “Outstanding” by Ofsted. He has chaired the South Bolton Cluster a collaborative of seven secondary schools in the South of Bolton, as well as holding the position of Vice Chair of the Bolton Association of Secondary Headteachers consisting of sixteen secondary schools. Mubaaruck is a designated National Leader in Education (NLE) and uses his expertise to work with schools which are in special measures or are underperforming.

Sajid Isap

Sajid is a Community Pharmacist, a role that he has successfully been fulfilling for the last 18 years. Sajid has a wealth of experience in dealing with young people within the local community, having been involved with various community activities over the last few years. In his role at the school, Sajid aims to be a critical friend to the SLT by offering support and advice, and also by helping the school set high standards by planning for the school’s future and setting targets for sustained school improvements. Sajid is currently serving in the Education Committee, a role that he is enjoying, as it helps him work with the school on planning and developing policies and also by keeping the school under constant review.

Faruk Bharucha

Faruk is the Company Director of a successful local business which he established over twenty eight years ago. Faruk is actively involved in the voluntary sector and has worked tirelessly with a range of charities and community projects in Blackburn to improve the quality of life and aspirations of local communities he has worked with.

Shoayb Mohmed

Shoayb is the company Director for a major designer and furniture importer and distributer in the UK. Shoayb founded the company in 2006 and runs its UK distribution centre, which is supported by 3 overseas sourcing offices. His role includes business development and overseeing strategy and management in key areas of the company. Shoayb also holds directorship in a real estate investment business.

Safura Patel

Safura is employed by a charity as a corporate fundraiser. Having served as a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer at her son’s primary school, Safura wanted to play an active role at Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School to secure outstanding provision.  Safura is an ex-pupil of Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and is committed to listening to parents and working in collaboration with the school to meet its goals and ambitions and enable children at the school to thrive academically.

Medina Patel

Medina is employed by Lancashire Constabulary and during her 14-year career, she has worked in a variety of roles including communications, team leadership, training, community engagement and most recently as part of a task force that was commissioned to review and restructure the force to become more efficient with reduced finances. Currently she is on a secondment with a local authority in the role of Prevent Coordinator. Medina held the post of General Secretary of the Lancashire Black Police Association, and provided guidance and mentoring to other staff.

Medina is a former pupil of Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and wishes to influence the direction and development of the school.

Dot Thomson

Originally trained to teach in the Primary phase, Dot worked in a community high school for ten years before moving to advisory work with Wigan Local Authority. Dot is an experienced School Improvement Officer and head of service, who managed a team of 30 officers and consultants. She has worked across all phases of education in a wide range of schools including community, voluntary aided, academies, special schools, alternative provision, and pupil referral units. Dot has been an Ofsted inspector and an inspector of denominational education in Anglican schools. She is passionate and enthusiastic about working with senior leaders, teachers and support staff to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.

Mustak Ugradar

Mustak works for a pharmaceutical company as a Health Service manager. He has an honours degree in Chemical Engineering from Teeside University. He has lived in Blackburn for most of his life and hence went to primary and secondary school in the town.  Mustak’s working experience comprises of commercial and customer service, as he meets health care professionals on a daily basis.

Ali Vika

Ali’s passion is for helping communities to help themselves. He works tirelessly with a range of charities and community projects in Blackburn to support the community in raising their aspirations and improving quality of life. Ali also chairs a large charity operating across South Asia.
