Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

Our vision is to nurture today’s young people and inspire tomorrow’s leaders. We strive to help our young men achieve their very best academically and personally, pursuing the best possible progression pathways after completing their education at our school.

Every pupil is encouraged to set their sights high for their future, nurture their gifts and make the most of their talents regardless of their background or individual circumstances. In order to help them prepare for college, university and the world of employment, we provide timely careers guidance, enterprise and leadership initiatives in school.

Through the school’s leadership specialism and our partnership with our Enterprise Adviser and Chair of Governors, Mo Isap, we continue to develop links with leading local employers in professions, business, industry and the public, community and voluntary sectors. We invite leading, successful and accomplished businessmen and women from the community and beyond to inspire our learners to be the very best they can be.

Years 10 and 11 pupils are offered one to one independent advice and guidance interviews to explore their post 16 options with a view of pursuing their post 18 education goals. These guidance interviews provide an overview for pupils and their options including apprenticeships and information on the current labour market. Each pupil visits a workplace for experience and select pupils participate in our new, innovative Star Enterprise programme, which will encourage pupils to hone independent learning and rigorous academic research skills, while engaging with CEOs and Directors of organisations to direct their research projects. Pupils receive keynote addresses from an array of speakers as part of the Leadership Lecture Initiative.

In Year 12, students have the opportunity to visit an extensive range of universities and participate in a residential at Oxford or Cambridge University and also have an opportunity to visit the USA as part of the Ivy League University visits.  Each student visits a workplace for experience and select students have the opportunity to participate in our innovative Mini MBA programme, which encourages students to hone independent learning and rigorous academic research skills, while engaging with CEOs and Directors of organisations to direct their research projects.

Each year, we hold UCAS days for students entering Year 13 in preparation for university applications.  Students are offered extensive one to one guidance with applications and are encouraged to apply to Russell Group universities.  We offer bespoke programmes for competitive admissions (medicine and dentistry) applicants and have a very successful rate of admissions for these aspirants.  This is complemented by our very exciting and stimulating Medical Society which preludes the application process for aspiring medics and dentists. Students will also be offered Lancaster University’s Access to Medicine programme, which provides a guaranteed medical interview.

Our annual Careers Fair and Aspirations Day takes place in the autumn term. Inspiring guest speakers provide a keynote address before pupils explore exhibitors from various sectors. A wide spectrum of providers attend the fair including representatives from London School of Economics, Oxford University, Manchester Air Groups and many other organisations that support our pupils careers education.

Our CEIAG provision is evaluated with pupils, teacher and employers on an annual basis. As a result of the feedback of our stakeholders, we are:
