Our Principal’s success in Lancashire Telegraph Schools Awards

Last night our Principal was named Secondary Headteacher of the Year at the Lancashire Telegraph Schools Awards.

Principal Mubaaruck Ibrahim stood out to the judges because of his strong leadership and National Leader of Education status. When presenting Mr Ibrahim with the award, they also highlighted our pupils’ excellent 2016 GCSE results, and how TIBHS has become a National Support School under his headship. In addition to academic success, the judges praised the school for its sports coaching and community service activities.

Mr Ibrahim said: “It’s incredibly humbling to be given this award. I am but one ingredient in the TIBHS recipe for success. For me to be recognised in this way is testament to the hard work of all members of staff across our school, and to our students themselves who achieve excellent results year in, year out – so I share this accolade with them.

“It is a privilege to work as part of a team that is achieving its goal of providing local young people with an excellent education. I feel incredibly proud that our school – a Lancashire school – is one of the highest performing schools in the country, in the top 1% of all UK schools for progress and overall performance.

“Our focus on academic excellence, coupled with our vision of nurturing today’s young people, inspiring tomorrow’s leaders, is successfully producing well-rounded young men of strong character who leave TIBHS ready to play an active role in Blackburn, Lancashire and in modern Britain. That’s what makes me most proud.”

Pupils Jameel Waghat and Hamzah Isap accepted the award on Mr Ibrahim’s behalf and made a gracious acceptance speech.

Star Academies sponsored the Volunteer of the Year award, recognising the vital role volunteers play in the county’s schools, giving their time freely for the benefit of others. The Trust’s Steve Edwards, Director of Partnerships, presented the award to Brian Fagan, a governor at Witton Park Academy.

TIBHS sends its congratulations to all the other schools, teachers, governors and support staff recognised in this year’s Lancashire Telegraph Schools Awards. Details of all the winners are available on  the Lancashire Telegraph website.
