Three Teaching School Hubs for Star Schools
The Department for Education (DfE) has designated three schools operated by Star Academies as Teaching School Hubs in the North West. The high-performing schools submitted successful bids to the Department for Education and have been appointed as the Hub leads for the following areas:
- Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School for Blackpool, Lancaster, Preston and Wyre (DfE code: LWY2 – 230)
- Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College for Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Ribble Valley and Rossendale (DfE code: LWY4 – 281)
- Eden Boys’ School, Bolton for Bolton, Bury and Rochdale (DfE code: LWY13 – 294)
The DfE’s new Teaching School Hub programme has created a national infrastructure of 87 centres of excellence for teacher training and professional development, replacing the previous network of around 750 Teaching Schools.

This new programme will enable the purposeful collaboration, sharing of expertise and professional growth of teachers and leaders serving different communities. We look forward to working and learning with our partners to build on the positive foundations that were developed nationally through Teaching Schools, and to meet the new challenges faced by the sector.”
Partnership work and the delivery of the DfE’s Golden Thread for recruiting and retaining teachers will be led across the three Teaching School Hubs by Star Academies’ professional development arm, Star Institute. The Institute is a current provider of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) and the Early Career Framework (ECF) programme. It is committed to building an exceptional provision of the new suite of NPQs and supporting the national roll out of the ECF programme in September.
The new Teaching School Hub structure will enable Star to work collaboratively with a breadth of prominent partners across the region, including research schools, curriculum hubs and other providers of high quality CPD in Lancashire, Greater Manchester and beyond.

Majid Ditta, Principal of Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School in Blackburn, shared his thoughts:
“Our previous involvement with Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School’s Teaching School stands us in good stead for this new venture. We relish the opportunity to play a role in the local community in Blackburn and beyond, living one of our core values at Star; Service. We strive to achieve the very best for our young people and we are looking forward to working with an even wider community through this new role as a Teaching School Hub.”
Star Institute is committed to serving all schools in the areas covered by the Teaching School Hubs. It will embed existing and establish new partnerships to provide a cohesive, high quality training and development offer to all teachers and leaders.
The Institute will continue to support local and national initiatives, such as the Exemplary Leadership Programme, which is in its pilot year, and the newly launched Quality Assurance and School Improvement service.
