TIBHS Tops Performance Tables for Progress

The publication of provisional Performance League Tables for 2015/16 has today confirmed that TIBHS is amongst the top three highest performing schools in the country in the Government’s new headline ‘Progress 8’ measure.

‘Progress 8’ assesses the amount of progress pupils have made during their time at secondary school when taking into account their prior attainment at primary school. TIBHS’ ‘Progress 8’ score was +1.16, demonstrating that pupils achieve, on average, more than a grade higher nationally than their peers of a similar ability.

TIBHS also achieved “well above average” in other key performance indicators, and this is reflected in the calibre of their GCSE results.

95% of TIBHS’ pupils attained grades A*-C in English and Maths, compared to a national average of around 59%. 72% of pupils were also awarded the English Baccalaureate, a qualification that recognises achievement in multiple academic subjects and requires pupils to secure at least a grade ‘C’ in English, mathematics, the sciences, a modern foreign language, and history or geography. Nationally, fewer than a quarter of pupils achieved this.

The school recently enjoyed national acclaim following the release of pupils’ exceptional GCSE results earlier this summer, with Schools’ Minister Nick Gibb praising TIBHS for its “remarkable feat” in securing the highest GCSE results across all Free Schools in the country.

TIBHS’ achievements are perhaps even more significant when considering that this was the first time pupils at the school – which opened in 2012 and was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2014 – had undertaken GCSE examinations.

Principal and National Leader of Education, Mubaaruck Ibrahim, said: “We were thrilled with our GCSE results this summer, and ranking amongst the top three schools in the country for pupil progress is another achievement our staff and pupils can be truly proud of. It is unquestionably their commitment and hard work that has helped to get us here today, and the results of our first GCSE cohort promise great things to come. We will be working hard to build on this success in the coming years. It is wonderful to see our students achieving such outstanding results, regardless of their background, as this shows that we are fulfilling our mission to deliver and promote educational excellence.”
